In the last week of classes, our students had the privilege of hosting a special guest: John Kyriakidis, a cycling champion. His visit aimed to promote a healthy lifestyle and inspire our community to become more bike-friendly, even in our hilly town of Giannitsa.
An Educational and Inspiring Session
John Kyriakidis captivated our students’ interest and sparked lively Q&A sessions. Students from different age groups asked many insightful questions about his experiences, training regimen, and the challenges he faces as a professional cyclist. Topics of discussion included the benefits of cycling, proper nutrition for athletes, the discipline required for competitive sports, the importance of regular bike maintenance, and the risks of using performance-enhancing drugs. Additionally, he shared valuable insights on how to prevent and manage injuries.
One of the highlights of the session was when John showcased his own racing bike. Students were fascinated by the advanced technology and design, which sparked further curiosity and engagement.
Discovering Our Students’ Enthusiasm
It was heartening to see our students so engaged and interested in the topic. Many of them shared their own experiences with cycling, and some even expressed a newfound interest in taking up the sport more seriously. The event was both fun and educational, serving as a perfect end to the school year.
A Fun Sunday Bike Ride
To extend the momentum, we organized a bike ride on Sunday, June 2nd. Although only a few students joined, those who did had a fantastic time. They learned about basic cycling rules, participated in games, and even raced each other in friendly competition. The ride was not just about having fun; it was an opportunity for students to practice safe riding techniques and foster a sense of community.
Looking Ahead
We are excited about the possibility of organizing more cycling events and initiatives in the future. Our goal is to inspire our students, help make Giannitsa a more bike-friendly town, and encourage everyone to embrace a healthier lifestyle. We believe that with continued effort and enthusiasm, we can achieve this goal.
Thank you to John Kyriakidis for his inspiring visit and to all the students who participated. Let’s keep the wheels turning towards a healthier, more active future!
